Artist StatementThe key elements that inspire my work are color and texture derived from nature. I want to create curious, desirable objects, where decoration becomes the main function. The pieces are designed to be beautiful, glistening focal points that can adorn any interior. The palette is inspired by Japanese Prints like Ando Hiroshige’s ‘Sparrows, Moon and Blossoming Peach’. There is a wonderful simplicity in the use of pastel shades with a splash of vibrant color to highlight features. Since going to visit Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka’s exhibition at the design Museum in 2002, I have been fascinated by lampworking and it’s ability to mimic even the most minuet details in nature. The contrast between these details and the flowing organic qualities of hot blown glass have infinite possibilities and act as a brilliant contrast to one another, the fragile crystal forms set beside soft, almost velvet like folds. BiographyStudying at Wimbledon School of Art for my Foundation Year led me to Ediburgh College of Art to study a Glass Degree. Exhibiting works throughout the UK led me to go back to education in 2007 to complete my Masters Degree and to obtain more knowledge and skills in the professional area at the Royal College of Art. In completeing my masters I hope to continue to sell work and set up my own business.ResumeEducation2009 MA Ceramics and Glass, Present degree 2007 – 2009 October 2007 - July 2009 Royal College of Art 2002 - 2005 September 2002- July 2005 Edinburgh Art College2005 BA (Hons) Design and Applied Arts, Glass and Architectural Glass, First Class 2002 Art Foundation Course Distinction2001 - 2002 September 2001- June 2002 Wimbledon School of ArtProfessional ExperiencePeter Layton London Glass Blowing StudioGlass Blowing assistant for artist commission for ‘The Big Chill Festive’Glass Blowing assistant for Artist Liam ReevesExhibitions2003 Crystal World, Edinburgh Art College 2004 Work in Progress, Edinburgh Art College Encompass, Edinburgh Art College 2005 Degree Show, Edinburgh Art College New Designers, Islington Design Centre2006 Making Connections, Timespan, Helmsdale Colour Verve, The Gallery, West Kilbride2007 Cup Project, Royal College of Art, London 2008 Student Exhibition at Ceramic Art London, Royal College of Art, London Reflection, Sir John Soane Museum Work in Progress, Royall College of Art, London2009 Student Exhibition at Ceramic Art London, Royal College of Art, London Off The Wall, The Gallery Room, London Degree Show, Royal College of Art, London
